To whom it may concern:

The State of Washington is one of the hottest spots in the USA for BSL.

Although the State has a non-BS law, the state government has allowed cities/towns and municipalities to legislate their own laws, which supercede state law. These towns have enacted laws, which by name or description of a dog make it legal for them to confiscate and destroy your pet. Under such laws the legal travel over state highways through these towns with a breed again described or named in their laws makes you a criminal. You have never thought of yourself, as anything but a law-abiding citizen I’ll bet. Well in these towns harboring a “dangerous dog” (by his breed or description alone) means you are breaking the law.

There are 17 cities, towns or municipalities that carry BSL throughout the state. Many will say, “It doesn’t affect us, our breed is not mentioned” to this I say “Not mentioned YET”. I believe the goal of BSL is to outlaw ALL dogs. Not just a few. You see once these “few” dogs are listed it is very easy to add to the list. No reason to vote on anything they just decide that this weeks “media monster” will be added. What’s next the dog that walks with a funny gait?

Do you know that someone can come to your house and say what breed you have in some of these towns? So you cut down the wrong tree and made your neighbor angry, he reports you have a Pit Bull on your property. In comes the sheriff and you say “no this is a boxer” (for instance) and show him is AKC papers, stating his breed. Well guess what people – that dog is between 20 and 110 pounds, he has a short coat, a broad skull, a pronounce cheek and looks to the sheriff to be a dog described in the law. You refuse to turn over your dog known as “illegal property” in this town and you can be arrested. Then the dog is confiscated held for evidence at which time he could then legally be declared a “described breed” and later destroyed.

The Animal rights movement is for one goal – to eliminate pets all together. When a town goes for BSL be assured they will have the backing of all the animal rights people.

They state it best – in their own words –

INGRID NEWKIRK  (Chicago Daily Herald, March 1, 1990)
"One day we would like to see an end to pet shops, and the breeding of animals."

(Washingtonian Magazine, August 1986)
On pet ownership "..An absolutely abysmal situation brought about by human manipulation."

PeTA Spokespersons:

(Marin Independent Journal, June 25, 1989) "We even oppose the use of honey, because bees die in the process of gathering it." (Carol Burnett, not the comedienne)

Dog World, Nov. 8, 1990, Letters to the Editor) "...PeTA has always been very straightforward in our opposition to the purposeful breeding of any animal." "We support breed specific legislation." (Teresa Gibbs on PeTA letterhead)

It sure isn’t stated here “we are after the safety of humans and see SBT’s as a harmful animal” they clearly say, “We want to stop the breeding of animals.” Period – plain and simple – NO DOGS what so ever. NO Companion animals at all – let alone animals for food, such as beef or pork or chicken! So meat lovers what’s for dinner tonight?

Please be aware that BSL is not aimed at a few breeds but the Dog Kingdom on a whole. They know that saying NO DOGS would get everyone up in arms but by listing the “Media Monsters” first then Joe-Public backs it. Now Joe-Public doesn’t realize his dog is next! Education is our key to stop this “…absolutely abysmal situation” !!!

Please, just because your breed is not mentioned right now, do not turn your back on those that are.
